De-cluttering your E1 Area Home - Moving Company London

De-cluttering your E1 Area Home

Posted on 18/08/2014

De-cluttering is a job that we all need to do from time to time, and a job that should be done daily but rarely is.  Whether you are cleaning your E1 area home, or preparing it for a viewing if you are selling it, de-cluttering is one of the first things you should do.  Not only does having a clutter free home make it much easier to clean your house, it also saves time and money when you move properties, having less to box and therefore less to pay to have moved.

You can hire a company to come out and de-clutter your home for you, but unless you have a severely cluttered home, are a landlord who has a lot of tenant mess to clear away or have bought your home from auction and need it gutting, de-cluttering is most likely a job that you can do yourself.

The de-cluttering process: doing it yourself:

You will need a selection of boxes, along with some marker pens for labelling.

1.    Label boxes:  Keep, Store, Sell, Donate, Recycle, Dispose.

2.    Choose a room to start with, you should go through your entire home room by room, de-cluttering as you go.  Everything within the room you are clearing should be placed within one of the labelled boxes so that the room until the room is completely emptied of everything inside.

3.    Anything you want to keep can be placed back inside the room, if it has a permanent place to be stored, if you still have more things that you comfortably have room for you may need to gt rid of some more stuff.

4.    Work your way around the home until all the rooms are emptied of everything, except those things you wish to keep.

5.    Once your home is completely clutter free you will have boxes of your old belongings that you will need to get rid of.

•    Anything you want to keep but do not have room to house you should put into storage using either a friend/family member who has some spare room, or a storage/self-storage company. Box these things up securely and label them so you know what is inside, make sure they are packed correctly and if anything is delicate it should have a protective wrapping around it.
•    You will have some belongings that you don’t want or need, but are in good condition, and/or are valuable, you should sort through these things and separate them into things of high value or are desirable and that you will want to sell privately, and things that are better suited to be sold at something like a car boot sale.
•    Anything that you would like to donate to charity can be boxed or bagged up and taken to a local charity shop or donation bin’s that can be found in places like supermarkets.
•    Recycling should be sorted into the relevant categories, e.g. metal, plastic etc. and then take to a recycling centre to be disposed of.  Of your ‘rubbish’ from the de-clutter up to 90% of it can be recycled, you may have some specialised items that cannot be recycled in the same way as your other things, you may need to find a specialised company to take this from you.
•    If you have one or two bags of rubbish, you may be able to leave this out for your weekly rubbish collection.  However, if you have too many bags it is advisable to dispose of these at a waste disposal centre, you will be charge by the weight (per tonne) of the waste you dispose of.

Cost isn't an issue for me when it comes to searching for movers, since most of the cheaper ones end up cutting corners somewhere else, but with London Removals, I paid a reasonable rate for quality work.

In the past, I have moved with other removals companies, but I must say that the packing and overall relocation experience with London Movers was far better than with any company I have used before. The movers arrived well before they were due at my property to move me to my new home. The weather was not good and it was a Saturday evening yet there were no sub-charges because of this. The prices for the services and professionalism you get are second to none and I would be happy to recommend them to anybody who is moving in the future and is looking for an all-round great removals team!

The movers at MovingCompanyLondon did an amazing job removing my antique piano and display unit from a first floor flat which involved going up a lot of steps. They took away all my worries and I'm extremely grateful.
