Details To Consider When Compiling Your Moving Checklist

There are plenty of things to consider if you plan on having a smooth and stress free experience when moving house. Possibly the most important aspect of a house move is finding a removal company that’s right for you and your requirements on moving day. Leave it too late and you may be lumbered with an inexperienced moving company which could very well cause you a lot of undue hassle which you could do without during the stresses of moving day. Use this foolproof advice to get the right removal service and the quality experience that you deserve.

1.    Make sure that you know exactly what you’re paying for.
If you’re looking for a company to help you with small removals, a man and van service could be the answer. But if you’re moving furniture and have a lot of large, heavy and valuable items, you need to be looking for an experienced, well reputed company to give you a hand. There are a lot of things that get factored in to the price of a house removals job. If you have a lot of big and heavy furniture, you may need to hire more than one removal van, which will cost you more. You have to decide if you want to hire additional services, such as packing services, or if you’ll be happy packing and securing your items yourself, which could save you some money. Factor in fuel costs; how far the moving vehicle will have to travel to get to your new place. When you want the move to happen and how fast you want to arrive; plan to move on a weekend and you will undoubtedly be paying more than if you move on a weekday for example. But whichever company you choose to hire, when making your initial calls and enquires, be sure you know exactly what you’ll be paying for and what you expect to be delivered.

2.    Think about contents insurance policies.
Although it may take some time, add up the value of everything you plan on bringing with you to your new house. It’s well worth paying a fraction of this to have everything covered and protected in the case of any breakages or if anything goes missing (not that this should happen if you book with an experienced, quality and professional company, but you should never take the risk if you have expensive and valuable items that you won’t be able to replace!).

3.    Be prepared or prepare for a rocky experience.
Do your research, get plenty of packing materials and do everything you possibly can to ensure the process progresses without any problems. When you begin packing, make a floor plan of your new house so that you have a rough idea what you’re planning on putting where. This will enable you to pack systematically and label all your boxes so that once at your new house, you can begin unpacking quickly and get moved in as speedily as possible. When you pack, minimise the number of items you’re planning to take. Use the move as an opportunity to get rid of items you no longer use, either by throwing them away or by selling them at your local car boot sale to make a bit of extra money.

4.    Keep the moving team happy!
It’s always a good idea to stay on the right side to the moving team. Since they’re going to be doing a lot of heavy lifting, do whatever you can to help, including keeping them refreshed with some tea and biscuits or if you’re feeling generous, bacon sandwiches are always a hit!
